Social Issues

Social issues happen when people in your community face barriers to having everything they need for a healthy and independent life: financially, emotionally, physically, socially and mentally. Social issues affect individuals, families, and communities as a whole: they are problems that prevent your community from working as well as it can for everyone who lives there.

Check out these resources to find out more about some of the issues affecting communities across Canada. For the purpose of your YPI projects, there are many more social issues that you can research beyond the ones represented below, but these are some of the ones YPI students like yourselves have most commonly reported they care about . These resource pages aren't intended to tell you everything you need to know, but offer a quick general introduction to help you decide what topic to choose, and help you get started on your research.

We'll be adding more social issues to this page, but if you have a recommendation for what issues we should cover next, drop us a line at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
