Simple Dreams founders Ruth and Richard Kneider had big hugs for Sarah Hagarty and Rachel Pearson after the Grade 10 students won $5,000 for the Stratford-based charity Friday.

Friends Sarah and Rachel, both 15, were one of four teams in the final of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative competition at Northwestern Secondary School.

The students' task was to research a local charity and make a presentation to a panel of judges on why their charity was most deserving of a $5,000-grant from the Toskan Casale Foundation.

“We just really like what Ruth and Richard do, they really help the community,” Sarah said.

“Especially with how they help anyone with anything – it’s not like a certain sector that they direct their help to,” added Rachel, who knows the Kneiders from church and volunteering with Simple Dreams.

We acknowledge that YPI Canada’s office is on the territory of the Mississaugas of New Credit, the Haudenosaunee, the Anishnaabe and the Huron-Wendat. The traditional territory named Tkaronto has been a site of human activity for over 15,000 years and, today, is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on their territory and commit ourselves to the work of reconciliation.
